Set on Old Kings Highway in East Dennis, this restoration and addition preserves a barn frame that has stood on this lot for over 200 years, reworked and rebuilt into the bones of an entirely new home.

The 200-year-old barn that stood on this Old Kings Highway lot was structurally sound enough, in places, to be worth saving. Because the site falls within the Old Kings Highway Historic District, the project first required approval from the Historic District Commission. Once approved, the barn came down largely by hand so the team could salvage what the years hadn't taken.

Those salvaged timbers were milled into beams and ceiling boards and built directly into the new addition — material you can't buy at any lumberyard, at any price. Hand-hewn posts now anchor the great room ceiling, still marked by the tools that first shaped them two hundred years ago.

New construction and modern amenities throughout blend easily alongside the salvaged frame, so the finished house reads as one continuous whole.
